New Year, New Lily

Looks like 2012 has a lot in store for our little girl. For those of you who have not seen Lily since she started her anti-seizure medication in August, I cannot even begin to describe the incredible changes that have been taking place.
I can't even count the number of times, before medication, that I described Lily as strong, determined, and motivated. I never thought I would see that drive and determination increase even more. The girl has become a high speed freight train of accomplishment, focus, and yet more determination.
Today at lunch was the perfect example. One of the major goals Lily has had in therapy since day one has been hand to hand transfer of objects. This shows that the right and left sides of the brain are communicating with one another. This is a goal typically achieved somewhere in the 6-12 month age range. We have worked on this with Lily to no avail these past two years.
So what does she do today, completely unassisted and unprompted? Not only does she complete a precise hand to hand transfer once, not twice, but three times! All while making the additional accomplishment of taking the cracker (object she was transferring) directly to her mouth to take a bite out of it. Another area we have been working on with her, being able to feed herself.
God willing, may 2012 be a year of amazing firsts for Lily!

One Step at a time!

It has been almost two years since Lily-an came in to our lives. At first we were only concerned with the most basic elements of survival for her. Just giving her the most and very best food we could to allow her body to recover and strengthen. Rolling over and sitting up were huge accomplishments for her. The light of life brightened in her eyes and she began to reach out to the world around her and want more.

Well watch out world, here comes Lily!! We got her new braces (called KAFO's) last Wednesday but we haven't had much of a chance to try them. It takes a while to brake them in so she only wears them an hour or so at a time right now. We had some time tonight to try them out.

Bear in mind that this is the very end of the day and she had nearly fallen asleep not even 10 minutes before this - we were trying to wait for Mike to get home to take the video. We had already spent 20-30 minutes working on standing and walking so she was tuckered out! I had made the red carry sling back when we were working on trying to help her crawl and it occurred to me that it might be helpful to assist her walking. I wish Mike had been home to get video of her right after we tried it the first time, she was so excited, and so, so proud of herself:-) Mama and Baba are pretty proud of her too!

New Month, New Adventures

Can we really be in March already?! Time gets screwed up when you have kids I am finding:-) It feels like just yesterday that we brought Lily home, and at the same time it feels like she has been with us forever.
Lily is changing so fast we can't even keep track of all of the progress she is making on a daily and sometimes hourly basis. She is getting so strong and she is really beginning to develop her own personality. She is sweet and quirky and a little goofy.
What can I say - we are so blessed by God to have this little firecracker of a girl in our lives. I can't even begin to describe what it is like to watch God working so directly and evidently in our lives - in her life.
Thank you God.
